Experienced Farm Worker

We are hiring an experienced farm worker to join our team beginning November 2023. This is a full-time (40 hours/week), year-round position.

 

This is a fast-paced and physically demanding role, with almost all working hours spent outside. We work in all weather conditions, rain or shine.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Daily harvests of cut flowers for our farmers markets, CSA bouquets, and florist customers

  • Planting bulbs, plugs, and plants 

  • Weeding beds

  • General farm maintenance, including bucket washing, organization, cleaning out barn/cooler, irrigation repairs, mowing etc.

  • Greenhouse work including starting seeds

  • For interested candidates, potential to help at farmers market and you-pick events

 

Ideal Candidate

  • 1-2+ years of crop farming, market gardening, greenhouse, nursery, horticultural or related experience

  • Ability to lift 60+ pounds repeatedly, squat/bend, and be on hands & knees for extended periods of time

  • Interested in organic/natural farming, botany, horticulture, landscaping, pest control

  • Organized and quick to learn new tasks

  • Some proficiency in speaking and reading English

  • Able to use basic technologies like Google Sheets 

  • Able to commit to regular schedule - our crew typically works 7am-3:30pm on weekdays, with occasional weekends and overtime required

  • Reliable transportation

 

What We’re Offering

  • Hourly pay starting at $19/hour (more based on experience)

Harvesters/Farm Hands

​

We are hiring several additional harvesters to support our cut flower operations in 2023, into 2024. Seasonal position running from through Thanksgiving, with full-time, year-round employment opportunities available for the right candidates. This is a fast-paced and physically demanding role, with work hours spent outdoors in all weather conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Harvesting cut flowers 

  • Working outside in all conditions - rain or shine, hot or cold

  • Bending down to harvest

  • Carrying heavy buckets

  • Assisting with other farm taks including weeding

  • Helping farm crew with fall bulb planting in November

  • General farm maintenance, including bucket washing, organization, sweeping, mopping, cleaning out barn/cooler, irrigation repairs, etc.

  • For interested candidates, potential to help at farmers market and you-pick events

Ideal Candidate

  • No farming experience necessary

  • Positive attitude, flexible schedule 

  • Ability to lift 60+ pounds repeatedly, squat/bend, and be on hands & knees for extended periods of time

  • Organized and quick to learn new tasks

  • Able to commit to regular schedule, 8-12 hours/week - we have a very small team and reliability is key

Farmers’ Market Attendants (NJ - NYC)

We are hiring two farmers market attendants to help with a Saturday farmers markets in Brooklyn.

One candidate would be local to the farm, able to drive our product into the city, and then drive back at the end of the day (approx 15 hours/week). The second candidate would be in the city to meet the first person in the early afternoon (approx 4 hours/week). We may be able to combine these roles with additional jobs on the farm to provide more hours during the week.

Key Responsibilities

  • For full-day attendant, work full day for Saturday market in Brooklyn (arrive at farm at approx. 4am to load van; return to farm after market at approx. 6pm)

  • Load and unload van full of buckets of flowers

  • Set up tents, tables and flowers at market

  • Communicate with customers about flower varieties, vase life, and farm news

  • Use Square Point of Sale system to take payments from customers

  • Wrap flowers for customers

  • Consolidate market stand throughout the day for optimal appearance

  • Take down stand and re-load van at end of market day 

  • Communicate with farmers market staff for critical updates

  • Work in all weather conditions - rain, shine, and cold temps

 

Ideal Candidate

  • Ability to lift 80+ pounds repeatedly, squat/bend, etc

  • Interested in organic/natural farming, botany, horticulture, flowers

  • Some background working for a florist shop, farmers market, etc.

  • Some knowledge of cut flowers (or willingness to learn)

  • Fluent in English

  • Able to use basic technologies like Square

  • Able to commit to regular schedule - ideally covering Brooklyn Farmers Market each Saturday, December through March (no market weekend after Christmas)

  • For full-day attendant/driver, driver’s license with clean driving record

 

What We’re Offering

  • Hourly pay starting at $19/hour for afternoon market attendant; $24/hour for full-day market attendant/driver

  • Freebie flowers when available 

  • Potential to take on additional delivery routes and farmers market work as the farm continues to expand
